Nature dreamed
His trees, fields, woods and sea views conjure up scenes of magic, of visions, nostalgic forms of nature dreamed. The images selected for these pages are the custodians of scarcely concealed vibrant emotion, thanks to an intimate relationship with the essence of “things”. Like a diary where the artist has conserved his art and his dreams.
“[...] The charm of nature, as read through a filter of self identification has few previous examples in our cultural history [...] Gaudino introduces himself as an inventor of dreams”
Mauro Corradini
Animals
The supreme elegance and colours of his animals: birds, cows and bulls, insects, like his characters seem to emerge as from a marvellous fable in which he collected them, a sort of Noah’s ark, to conserve them and then make them reappear in the magic art of these pages.
“the well-loved naturalistic research into Durer rabbits [...] exemplary capacity to catch the precise softness of a cow’s back, the painfully felt “ necessity” to draw the drowned cows following the Polesine floods, all this exalted in his fantasy world of animals like that of at least one of Goya’s paintings - “Caprichos”.
Franco Fanelli
Characters
His diary is of men and women, children with their gestures and faces, portraits coming to life between dreams and memories, captured as significant sparks of human existence.
“in his research into the figures that surround him - the girls he met, the daily life of the world as seen through his models - Gaudino seems interested in seizing [...] the secret sense of an emotion.”
Mauro Corradini
